Tinchuley – Offbeat Destination of Darjeeling

You are frustrated with the scorching heat. Do you want to go out somewhere nice and cozy? But also got bored with the repetitive tourist spots? Worry not. I am here to help you pick a nice place to chill, that too within time constraints.

After the lockdown, all the tourist spots were flooded with people. In such a situation you might want to have some time to spend alone in nature. That’s why we have brought Tinchuley—a small village near Siliguri.

How to go?

The easy way would be to book a shared cab and reach Tinchuley. This will be budget-friendly. But it’s not a judicious choice to make. You will miss the marvels in the journey. So my suggestion would be to book a reserved cab which will take you to Tinchuley with showing the spots on the journey.

Where to stay?

There are not so many options. Few homestays are available as it is a lonely place. We stayed at Wow Punam.

Trip duration?

You can come here with a duration of one night two days plan.

When to go?

You can visit here anytime. But October to April would be best.

We started our journey from the Siliguri bus stand i.e. NBSTC. From there we booked our cab and went ahead. First, we stopped at Sevoke Bridge or Coronation Bridge. It will give you the vibe of being in a foreign place. The Riverdale, green valley no words can justify their sheer beauty. Next is the Teesta view point. Here we saw the meeting point of two rivers. But to gain more clarity we drove to the lover’s meet point where the lovers Rangit and Teesta meet. In winter this scene escalates the charm. The mind gets swayed away. We headed towards Teesta bridge nope we didn’t cross the bridge took a turn and came to Triveni Sangam. There are various adventure sports like river rafting and night camping. You can book a tent and can stay a whole day in the sky beside the river that also within 1500 rupees. Then come to Lamahata. Lamahata has an eco-tourism park. As the name suggests it offers a healthy ecosystem for the plants and animals and also serves pleasure to tourists’ eyes. To have a bird’s view you can ride the watch tower present here. The main showstopper here is Kanchenjunga unless clouds have issues with you. Enjoy the view of the sacred lake by trekking up to 750 meters, it is worth watching. While going to Tinchuley we had a wholesome view of tea gardens from Gumabadara viewpoint. Gumabadara cave is also nearby. Now reach the hotel and enjoy a bonfire with chicken barbecue.

The next day started with absorbing the beauty of Tinchuley from window ridge. Then completed check-out formalities and headed for Tagdah. Tagdah orchid centre is our first destination today. It offers more than 60 varieties of orchids to mesmerize tourists. There are some medicinal plants too. Overall it is fun but it intensifies in winter. The pine trees and tea gardens will force you to stop and appreciate them. Our last destination is the Teesta valley tea garden situated at Rangliot, the largest in this area. You can trek up to the top of the garden area and capture these lifetime memories.

The journey ended in Siliguri. So why are you waiting? Go!!!
